Regular audits are one of the most important and underutilised habits of successful Amazon sellers. The Amazon marketplace changes constantly — competitor listings improve, keyword trends shift, advertising algorithms update, and account health metrics fluctuate. A seller who is not auditing regularly is flying blind, potentially losing sales and profitability without knowing why.

This guide gives you a 5-minute audit checklist covering the 8 most critical areas. Use this monthly as a quick health check, and when any area shows warning signs, go deeper with a more detailed investigation.

Why Regular Audits Matter

Amazon is a living marketplace. Your ACOS this month may be very different from last month because a competitor increased their bids, a negative keyword was accidentally removed, or a policy change affected how your ads are served. Your listing ranking may have dropped because a competitor acquired 20 new reviews. Your account health score may have fallen because of a customer complaint you did not notice. Regular audits catch these issues before they become significant revenue problems.

Most Amazon sellers check their sales dashboard daily but conduct detailed audits infrequently — often only when something has already gone seriously wrong. The sellers who maintain consistent high performance are those who build monthly audit habits into their operations.

8 Things to Check in Your Monthly Amazon Audit

  1. Listing quality score: Use Amazon's Listing Quality Dashboard (available in Seller Central under Inventory) to check your listing quality scores. Look for any listings flagged as "needs attention" and address suppression issues immediately — suppressed listings are invisible to buyers.
  2. Best Seller Rank (BSR) trends: Check your BSR trend over the past 30, 60, and 90 days. A declining BSR (higher number = lower rank) signals falling sales velocity. Compare your current BSR to the same period last year to identify seasonal patterns versus structural decline.
  3. Keyword rankings: Use a rank tracking tool (Helium 10, Jungle Scout, or similar) to monitor your rankings for your top 20 target keywords. Any significant ranking drops require investigation — check whether competitors have improved their listings or whether a product change affected your relevance for those terms.
  4. ACOS by campaign: Review your campaign ACOS at the campaign, ad group, and keyword level. Look for keywords with ACOS above your break-even threshold — either bid them down or pause them. Identify keywords with strong ACOS that are under-budgeted and increase their bids.
  5. Review health: Check your star rating trend — is your average rating stable, improving, or declining? Read your most recent negative reviews to identify recurring product or service issues. Review velocity (number of reviews per month) is also important — if your review acquisition has stalled, activate Amazon's Request a Review programme.
  6. Account health score:Find this in Seller Central under Performance > Account Health. Your target is to maintain an account health rating of "Great" (green). Any policy violations, high return rates, or late shipment rates can trigger account health warnings that, if uncorrected, can lead to selling privileges being revoked.
  7. A+ Content utilisation: If you are Brand Registered, check which ASINs have A+ Content and which do not. ASINs without A+ Content are leaving conversion rate improvement on the table. Prioritise adding A+ Content to your highest-traffic and highest-revenue ASINs first.
  8. Brand Store analytics: If you have a Brand Store, review its analytics quarterly. Check which pages drive the most traffic, which products convert best, and whether your Store is being accessed from Amazon Ads campaigns. A well-optimised Brand Store can significantly increase brand ROAS.

Quick Audit Checklist

Complete these checks monthly in under 5 minutes:

  • ☐ Listing Quality Dashboard — any suppressions or issues flagged?
  • ☐ BSR trend — up, down, or stable vs last month?
  • ☐ Top 5 keyword rankings — any significant drops?
  • ☐ Total ACOS this month vs last month — improving or worsening?
  • ☐ Average star rating — stable or declining?

When to Get a Professional Audit

Self-audits are valuable for catching obvious issues quickly. But a professional Amazon audit goes much deeper — examining your full keyword universe, advertising campaign structure, competitor positioning, pricing strategy, and growth opportunities that require expert knowledge to identify. Get a professional audit when: you are launching on Amazon for the first time; your sales have declined more than 15% month-on-month; your ACOS has risen more than 5 percentage points; you are preparing for a major sales event like Prime Day or Diwali; or you have not had an external review in over 12 months.
